Diving home last night after a visit with friends (great company, fresh coffee and delicious home made pies) I noticed the moon was about half and very bright. It was huge on the horizon. Later as I was trying to get to sleep (without a lot of success, probably due to that same fresh coffee) I got to pondering. I was thinking of the moon, the stars, some photos I had seen recently of the planets Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter. It made me think of how small the Earth is amidst all the heavens. We live in a sea of over 6.5 billion people, on a small chunk of rock floating in a huge, incomprehensible universe. Yet most of us act as if the entire universe revolved around our personal needs and wants. We look to God with selfish prayers and we whine "Why me God?" We forget to marvel in knowing that the God who created this massive universe even knows we exist. We don't stop to wonder what a blessing that it is that He not only knows we exist, but cares about us and wants to have a personal relationship with us. Think about that for a moment. In the midst of everything He created, hidden among 6 billion plus people, God cares about you and wants to be in relationship with you. That's pretty powerful stuff. Job wondered at that concept. "What is man that you make so much of him, that you give him so much attention Job 7:1 NIV David pondered that question. I can imagine him out under the stars tending his sheep as he wrote: When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, the son of man that you care for him? You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings and crowned him with glory and honor. Psalm 8:3-5 NIV I rephrased David's words a little and gave them some thought. When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, who am I that you are mindful of me? I realized that I'm someone special indeed. Not because of who I am, in the overall scheme of things, my coming and going will amount to an insignificant blip. I'm special and blessed because the God who created all the wonders of the universe knows me and loves me because He made me. That's a thought to drift off to sleep on. Be blessed Hallelu Yah (Praise God)! Kevin YOU ARE Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are always in the presence of God. Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand. Psalm 73:23 NIV Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that heaven will not be complete without you. HELP FOR THE HURTING Perhaps you've been thinking that you don't matter or that no one cares. Don't be deceived, the most important person that every existed, the God of all creation knows you and loves you. He wants nothing more than for you to be in a right relationship with Him. You can simply begin the relationship by honestly and completely opening your heart, admitting you need God's help, and saying a prayer along the lines of: Jesus: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I have sinned. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer for the first time let me know so I can rejoice with you.
