GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #935 October 16, 2003 Three Coats I've been painting the new office/library. I have the stairwell and the long wall finished. There is, of course, another long wall, but it has an 8'X3' window which makes it much smaller to paint. We picked Cranberry Jam as the wall color. It goes well with the carpet and the wingback chairs and will be a nice contrast to the nearly white birch bookcases and desks. It's been a slow process as each wall needs three coats of paint. It's not cheap paint, it's top of the line national brand paint of excellent quality, but it doesn't matter. The walls had been one of the thousands of shade of white/off white and the white really showed through the first coat. You could still see light patches after the second coat but number three seems to have done the trick. I've never quite understood the physics involved that make it harder to cover a light wall with a dark paint than to cover a dark wall. In my mind that seems backwards somehow. As I pondered the whole concept of light versus dark paint, my mind was inevitably drawn towards a spiritual principle. It's very difficult for the darkness to overcome the light. With time it can keep it from being bright, but the light still remains even after being covered with successive layers of darkness. The darkness simply cannot overcome the light. That's good news because we all fall at times and our light gets dimmed by the cover of our is. Satan can dim our light, but he can't extinguish it. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 NIV My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all; no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. I and the Father are one." John 10:27-30 NIV Once we have the light of Jesus in us, we are His and nothing can change that. If you've fallen and drifted, call out and He'll pick you up and clean you off. Until next time, REJOICE, the darkness can never overcome the Light. Be blessed Hallelu Yah (Praise God)! Kevin YOU ARE Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour you are standing in the grace of God Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Romans 5:1-2 NIV Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world. You are so precious to God that heaven will not be complete without you. HELP FOR THE HURTING You've fallen more times than you can remember and your sin is your constant companion. Satan whispers in your ear that God doesn't want you and doesn't love you. Don't believe it for a moment. God sent Jesus to die in YOUR place. Reach out to Him and be made right with God today. You can simply begin the relationship by honestly and completely opening your heart, admitting you need God's help, and saying a prayer along the lines of: Jesus: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I have sinned. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer for the first time let me know so I can rejoice with you.
