GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #306 October 29, 2001 A Horrible And Shocking Thing
We live in difficult times. War, racial tension, violence, a lack of moral standards and a church that seems complacent and powerless are some of the symptoms. The world looks for answers, but wonders if the church can even provide them. We dont seem any different than they are. Divorce rates, adultery, promiscuity, abortion and addiction are as high within the church as outside. Our television, movie and reading habits are identical to those of the non-believer. On the outside we dont look any different. Has God suddenly become powerless? Not at all, He remains in control, we simply must decide whether we wish to walk in submission and obedience or walk in our own path. Its nothing new. The people of Israel faced the same problem. Disobedience and apostasy characterized the times of their struggles. When they turned back to Him, they were restored. A horrible and shocking thing has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy lies, the priests rule by their own authority, and my people love it this way. But what will you do in the end? Jeremiah 5:30-31 We are called apart, to be a holy and separate people. To minister love, compassion and holiness to a hurting world. If our own lives are no different, why will they listen to us? We arent perfect, but we can make choices that impact our walk and lives. Will you give up the distractions of Satan and walk towards the light or will you knowingly walk in the dark? Church, we must make a choice. As an individual believer, you must make a choice, will you repent, and be set apart in holiness or will you walk the fence and blend in? Its time for some good, old-fashioned self-control and holiness. Were not to judge the lives of others, but we will be held accountable for how we handle our own. What will YOU do in the end? Until next time, may you answer the clarion call of the trumpet and stand for Jesus. God bless.
