GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #295 October 18, 2001 The Unexpected
Yesterday, as I took my daily walk around the lake, I was surprised by what I saw. At one point on the path the lake disappears from view because of a small hill. I rounded the hill and was confronted with a mound of snow as tall as I am. Its fall in Alberta and we can get snow anytime; in fact weve had a few skiffs but nothing that stayed on the ground. There was no way that there should be that quantity of snow around, and certainly not just in one area. It didnt take me long to realize that it wasnt really snow. It was scraped ice from the hockey arena. They must have done a surface change and put the ice outside to melt. Life can be like that. Were travelling merrily down our path and suddenly something out of the blue hits us. It can be overwhelming at times. We dont know what to do or where to turn. We simply need to trust God and take His hand For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you Isaiah 41:13 NIV Like a child finds comfort in the hand of a parent when something unexpected arises, we can find comfort holding the hand of God. Until next time, stretch out your hand, take His and fear not. God bless. Kevin Have the unexpected things or burdens of life got you down? Dont know where to turn? Turn to Jesus!
