GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue# 338 November 30, 2001 The Mistake Sometime in the first century, they made a mistake that continues to haunt us today. They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved. Acts 2:42-44 NIV Things were going so well that they decided to erect a building to meet in. They gathered at that building for fellowship, worship and teaching. Soon people began to call the building the church because thats where the church met. Now there is nothing wrong with having a church building to meet at, in fact it can often be a real blessing. The mistake was that believers began to think of the building as the church. The church is not the building we meet at, it is all of the people who have accepted Jesus. Its not something we go to once a week; it is who we are. Next time you are preparing to go to church, remember that you are the church. The only real church many people may ever see the inside of, is when you show them your heart. Until next time, may the inside of your church be open for all to see. God bless. Kevin Have you always thought that the building and building were the same as Jesus? Theyre not.
