GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue# 337 November 29, 2001 ARMOUR
I recently watched a documentary program about knights from the middle ages. The suits of armour they wore were heavy. Some weighed so much that the knight had to be hoisted onto his horse, and if he got knocked down, he was unable to get up by himself. They were also designed for each individual knight and made very form fitting. Gaining a few pounds could make the suits even more uncomfortable than normal. Wearing extra clothing was out of the question. The knights had to strip off most of their clothing before being assisted into the suit. The armour was protective, but it was heavy and uncomfortable. There is armour available for Christians. It too needs you to take something off: The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature. Romans 13:12-14 NIV There can be no darkness where there is light. When we leave areas uncovered, were exposed. Trying to wear the armour of light, while still carrying on in the darkness is very uncomfortable. The armour doesnt seem to fit right. It irritates, and doesnt seem to work as well leaving us open to more attack. What do you need to lay aside today to have the armour fit better? Until next time, may the armour of light fit you perfectly. God bless Kevin
