GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #330 November 22, 2001 The Art of Waiting
I spent hours perfecting my fly fishing technique and practicing until I had it down pat. I had the perfect flies picked for the area I would be fishing. I carefully picked the right spot, one where I could cast out to the rising fish with ease. I matched the fly to the hatch and was ready. A large trout rose and I cast in its direction. A perfect delivery, the fly floated gracefully through the air and landed right where the trout was feeding. I watched him slowly rise in the direction of the fly and was so excited that I pulled the fly away just before his strike. I chastised myself, calmed down and cast again. It was another perfect delivery. This time it seemed like forever, I began to look at the trees and birds and he struck while I was distracted. I wasnt able to hook into him and he got away. I never did catch him. Sometimes were like that with Gods blessings. We prepare for them, ask for them and wait for them. When they start to come, we pull away too quickly in our excitement and miss out on more. Or we get distracted by other things and miss out when He tries to bless us. Before the disciples went out into their ministry after the resurrection, Jesus told them to wait. "I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high." Luke 24:49 NIV They were faithful and were blessed by Holy Spirit. Have you mastered the fine art of waiting on God? Until next time, may you learn to wait with anticipation for the fullness of Gods blessing. God bless Kevin Do you have a relationship with the God who loves, forgives and blesses? If not, email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why a relationship with Jesus is important and a prayer that will make it possible. Accepting Jesus is one area of life where you dont want to wait. Make the decision today. To share your thoughts on this issue of Gleanings, or to share prayer concerns email us at corbin_writer@hotmail.com.
