GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 327 November 19, 2001 The Great Fight
Many people, Christians included, feel that the struggle between good and evil is a balance of two equals. Somehow Jesus and Satan are flip sides of the same coin and slug it out blow for blow, fighting a kind of perpetual draw. The reality is that the balance is a distorted image. Lets compare the two in the match of eternity: Satan vs. Jesus Jesus is the creator, Satan the created. Stand brought death with him (Genesis 3:19), Jesus brings life (John 10:10) Satan brought death while we were still innocent (Romans 5:8); Jesus brought life while we were still sinners (John 3:16) Satan is a fallen angel (Ezekiel 28:11-19); Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15) The two are anything but equal. Jesus remains supreme. His victory on the cross and His resurrection was proof of that. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death -- even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:7-11 NIV The scales have already been tipped and Satan has been found wanting. Jesus Christ is the victor. Until next time, remember that while the enemy still rages and fights, He has already been defeated. God bless. Kevin If you havent done so already, join the winning side and accept Christ.
