GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life
Issue # 325 November 17, 2001 Around in Circles
The bored dog amused himself by chasing his tail. Around and around he went in one direction, and then hed stop. Back around in the other direction for a while. Stop. Repeat process. It wasnt like there was nothing else to do. His Frisbee, chew toy and ball were all nearby. I chuckled to myself as I watched. What a meaningless form of amusement. I wondered, how silly do you have to be to keep going round in circles? Then I thought about the lives of many Christians. Some are so busy chasing the things of this world that they might as well be chasing their tail for all the satisfaction that it will bring them. Others are so busy running around doing churchy things that they have no time for God. Ironically, God is right near by. He is just sitting there waiting for us to stop chasing our tails and spend some time with Him. As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!" "Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:38-42 NIV We get to be like Martha sometimes, when what we need to do is just stop and sit with Him. Take some time today, to just sit quietly with Him and enjoy His presence. I know you are too busy, but let something else slide and give yourself sometime sitting on the Lords lap. Stop chasing your tail. Until next time, may you be blessed with a daily quiet time with the Master. God bless. Kevin Do you know this God who is sitting there, waiting just for you? The Creator of the universe who wants to spend personal time with YOU waits.
