GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #323 November 15, 2001 Frosty Morning
As I opened the door to take the dog for a walk, I noticed the van and trees. A thick layer of hoar frost covered them, painting everything with beautiful, intricate patterns of white art. I was back in less than a half hour and the sun had already melted most of the frost. A glance out the window a few minutes later showed the frost was gone. The season for those beautiful, intricate patterns had passed. A new set would replace them the next day, but those of that morning were gone forever. Life is like that: For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall 1 Peter 1:24 NIV In some ways that thought can be depressing. "Life is short, then you die" is the philosophy of many people. Yet for a believer there is so much more. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going." John 14:1-4 NIV There is great comfort in knowing that there is truly a better place ahead. Even a lifetime of suffering is short compared to the glories of eternity with Jesus. When times are tough, know that no matter what, for those who believer, a better time and place await. Until next time, hold steadfast to the hope of things promised by the One Who Cannot Lie. God bless. Kevin Do you know the One who holds the promise? If not, email me and Ill share a few Bible verses that will explain the importance of a relationship with Jesus and a prayer that will make it possible.
