GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #311 November 3, 2001 Insignificance and Awe
Todays Gleanings is simply a moment of awe. I had been thinking recently about how small each of us is in the scheme of things and how big God is. Were each one of 6 billion+ people on a small planet, in a small solar system, in a mid sized galaxy in a universe that is so big that we cant comprehend it. While I like to think the world revolves around me and the things I do, the truth is that it doesnt. The life of the condo complex I live in doesnt even revolve around me. It is enough to make a person feel insignificant. For just a moment, then I remembered the God part of the equation. The creator of this massive universe knows we exist and thats a miracle. He cares and thats a bigger miracle. He wants to have a personal relationship with us and have us spend eternity with us and thats a miracle beyond comprehension. Praise be to the LORD my Rock, who trains my hands for war, my fingers for battle. He is my loving God and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield, in whom I take refuge, who subdues peoples under me. O LORD, what is man that you care for him, the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow. Part your heavens, O LORD, and come down; touch the mountains, so that they smoke. Send forth lightning and scatter the enemies; shoot your arrows and rout them. Reach down your hand from on high; deliver me and rescue me from the mighty waters, from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. I will sing a new song to you, O God; on the ten-stringed lyre I will make music to you, to the One who gives victory to kings, who delivers his servant David from the deadly sword. Deliver me and rescue me from the hands of foreigners whose mouths are full of lies, whose right hands are deceitful. Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace. Our barns will be filled with every kind of provision. Our sheep will increase by thousands, by tens of thousands in our fields; our oxen will draw heavy loads. There will be no breaching of walls, no going into captivity, no cry of distress in our streets. Blessed are the people of whom this is true; blessed are the people whose God is the LORD. Psalm 144:1-15 NIV Until next time, no matter what you face, know that you dont face it alone. You have enough value in the eyes of Almighty God that He wants to spend time with you and bless you. Who or what could have more value than that. Praise be to God for His love. God bless. Kevin If you dont have a relationship with this awesome God who loves you, email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why a relationship is important and a prayer that will make it impossible. Never be alone or feel insignificant again, accept the open arms of Jesus Christ.
