GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #503 May 27, 2002 Trees of the Field The final song at yesterdays worship was a delightful little piece we have heard many times. It is one of those ditties that stick in my head and I can still hear it this morning. It is a paraphrase of a verse from Isaiah and speaks of the trees of the field clapping their hands for the Lord. As we talked after worship, I made a comment about a cartoonish image I had of the branches of the trees clapping together. We laughed a bit and talked about it when a young lady shared an image. She spoke of the wind blowing through the trees. As the wind blew the leaves rustled and the branches banged together. The trees were clapping their hands. I dont think Ill ever hear the wind in the trees the same way again. Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked forsake his way and the evil man his thoughts. Let him turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on him, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD." As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Isaiah 55:6-12 NIV The next time you hear the wind blowing in the trees remember the trees clapping their hands in anticipation of the Lord and be filled with His joy and peace. Be blessed today. Hallelu Yah Kevin Do you know God? Do you know His unconditional love, peace and forgiveness? Do you have a personal relationship with the God that is so good that the whole of creation looks forward to His presence? Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship. Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential? Your comments, your questions and your joys are shared with the prayer team, to keep me accountable as the head of the ministry and to encourage them as they see God at work in your life.
