GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #497 May 21, 2002 Wind Chimes I laid in bed very early in the morning listening to the gentle music coming from the wind chimes. There is something very soothing about their music. There is something I like about the variety of tones different chimes will make. We have two sets in our back yard. If it werent for my wifes voice of sanity and a desire not to annoy all my neighbours, I would probably have ten or twenty times as many. During the day, I quite often dont hear the chimes. I may be too busy to thing about them and they just dont register. Sometimes, there is enough noise from traffic and children playing that the music is drowned out. Other times, they are simply silent, waiting for the next gentle breeze to set them in motion. They chimes are still there, still hard at work or prepared to work at the next opportunity, but I simply dont listen. It can be that way with God. We pray fervently to hear a word from Him, but we dont take the time to listen. Sometimes we listen and dont hear, not recognizing He is still there and waiting for the right moment to make Himself heard. Sometimes we hear, but it is not what we were hoping for so we ignore His voice. There are times when He declares His presence through the shaking of the earth, fire on the mountaintops and the parting of the seas. More often He speaks in gentle whispers. And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?" Job 26:14 NIV Until next time, as you wait to hear His voice, take the time to listen in solitude. Tune out the noise and listen for the gentle rhythm of His voice. Be blessed today. Hallelu Yah Kevin Do you know that God is alive, well and still speaking today? He still desires to have a personal relationship with people; to offer them love, guidance, forgiveness and acceptance. Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship. Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential?
