GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #495 May 19, 2002 Startled A few years ago, actually now that I think about it, it was more like twenty years ago, I was looking after my parents farm for a week while they were on holidays. It was a nice break for me, away from the faced paced world of banking. Peace, quiet, and solitude. I was busy doing the few chores that needed to be done and I went to the granary to get some feed for the pigs. As I opened the door a little mouse ran out between my legs. It took a second for me to realize it was just a mouse. All I saw was something bolt between my legs and I jumped out of the way in panic. When I realized that it was only a mouse and my heart stopped pounding, I sat and laughed at myself. There I was, a grown man and scared by a mouse. I’m not sure which of us was the most frightened. I can almost hear it telling its mouse friends, "You should have seen the size of the guy I scared today. He jumped right up into the air out of my way." Sometimes the smallest things can get to us. They can side track us if we let them become our focus. We need to keep our focus on God, not the little things that distract us. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4 NIV Until next time, keep your eyes firmly focused on Him.
