GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #486 May 10, 2002 Storms You could sense its approach, long before it got here. There was a heaviness to the air and even the birds stopped singing. The leaves on the poplar trees turned upside down. The wind picked up and the sky darkened. The storm was nearly here. The drops were small and infrequent to begin with. The quickly grew larger and faster. Before long it was as if the heavens had been torn open. Sheets of rain so thick you could hardly see poured down. The streets had so much water running down them that they looked like rivers. Thunder boomed, rolling across the sky in waves stretching from horizon to horizon. Lightning flashed continuously, before the bolt from one strike had faded anther tongue of electrical fire was streaking out. In short, it was a typical summer thundershower. Stormy weather is a reality in life. Not just literal rainstorms but the storms of everyday life and its own struggles. In general we dont think very much of storms of either kind. We would just as soon not have to go through them. There are some storms from God that are definite benefits: You heavens above, rain down righteousness; let the clouds shower it down. Let the earth open wide, let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it; I, the LORD, have created it. Isaiah 45:8 NIV When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. Proverbs 10:25 NIV After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:17-18 NIV I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." Genesis 9:13-16 NIV For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. Isaiah 44:3 NIV The storms often bring Gods blessings. Until next time, may your life be full of the blessings that accompany storms from God. Hallelu Yah Kevin Are you in the midst of a storm in life with no way out? Turn to God and a personal relationship with His Son Jesus. Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
