GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #483 May 7, 2002

Cloudy Days

I’d like to thank the incredible number of you who sent words of encouragement and affirmation after reading yesterday’s Gleaning’s "Misunderstandings". The outpouring of support was very touching.

On the weekend when I was away, I was visiting the Bible College my son attends. (Living Faith Bible College in Caroline, Alberta -- a great little school). The students were graduating from the various programs and we were there for the ceremonies.

Living Faith is located in the Foothills of Canada’s Rocky Mountains. One of the things I really enjoy about driving there is the view of the mountains in the background as you get closer to the college.

This weekend the weather was cloudy with constant snow flurries. I didn’t see the mountains even once. They were still there of course, just not visible from where I was.

Sometimes our view of life is like my view this weekend. We get to a point where we can’t see God at work (or at least not working the way we want Him to) and we struggle and falter.

We begin to doubt His love, His faithfulness, maybe even His existence. Satan and his minions whispers in our ear "See, I told you that He isn’t really there. Only a fool would believe He would forgive someone like you."

In those times, God hasn’t moved. He hasn’t suddenly decided to renege on His offer of forgiveness. He hasn’t chosen not to love us anymore or become unfaithful. Our view has simply become temporarily obstructed.

If I had stayed at the college until the sun broke through, I would have seen the mountains in all their glory. As you stick it out through the questioning moments, you will see Him at work still.

God sees through all the clouds of our lives and keeps on working.

Know therefore that the LORD your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commands Deuteronomy 7:9 NIV

He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.  A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.              Deuteronomy 32:4 NIV

But Christ is faithful as a son over God's house. Hebrews 3:6a NIV

Until next time, "Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful." (Hebrews 10:23 NIV) especially on cloudy days.

Hallelu Yah

Do you have a relationship with this God who remains faithful? Would you like to be forgiven for the mistakes of your past and given a new start? Would you like a guaranteed, one way ticket to heaven when you die?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
