GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 479 May 2, 2002 Brand Names It is no great revelation to say that our society as a whole is status conscious. We think we need to have the newest, biggest and best. It also has to carry the right brand. There may be no discernable difference between two articles of clothing, but if one of them doesnt have the right brand boldly emblazoned on it, people dont want to wear it. It might be Nike, Adidas, Roots, R&R or something else (depending on what the flavour of the week is) but it must have the right label. Things have really gotten turned around. It used to be that companies paid for advertising, now we pay more for the privilege of wearing their brands. I like to joke that since I am 45 and not a super athlete that these companies should pay me not to wear their brand of clothing. There is nothing worse in the minds of a teen than to see some old, uncool person wearing their style. If you dont believe that, the next time you are in a store and see a teen admiring some piece of retro-styled clothing try this experiment. Tell them you used to have that exact item when you "were their age" and watch the reaction. There is a label however that will never go out of style. Its worn on the thigh, and on the jacket where some brands of athletic apparel carry their labels. I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:11-16 NIV Our Saviour will return, branded for all to see. He is the King. He is the Lord. No other brand name can ever stand up to Him. We have a choice; we can wear the brands of the world or carry the brand of Jesus. Whose name will you advertise? Until next time, may you boldly wear the brand of our Lord. Hallelu Yah Kevin If you dont know this Lord Im speaking of, but would like to email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship. Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential?
