GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #458 March 30, 2002

AFTERMATH

By now the disciples must have been reeling. Their Lord and friend was killed yesterday, the man they swore they would die to protect, then deserted Him.

Grief, guilt, confusion and more must have been tearing at their hearts. Not long ago they were arguing who would be seated at His side once He became king and now He was dead. Their hopes and dreams were dashed. They hadn’t experienced the reality of the resurrection to come and didn’t yet understand that He would be back.

Sometimes our lives leave us feeling like the disciples must have felt. Our hopes and dreams are shattered, we have no place to turn and our emotions simply overwhelm us leaving us helpless and void.

It was like that for me when I went off on long term disability leave with my brain injury. My entire world seemed to collapse around me and I had nowhere to turn. Sometimes it was overwhelming to make the decision to stand or sit. I remember days where making that kind of little decision would leave me so overwhelmed that I would cry until I collapsed where I was.

Some where in the midst of the blackness, I came to realize what the disciples were soon to find out. Jesus is alive, He does care and He carries us through the worst of times.

There is nothing so bleak in our lives that He doesn’t understand it. He knows physical and emotional pain. He knows suffering. He knows hunger, thirst and temptation. He knows the pain of losing friends to death. He descended into hell itself and conquered that.

When you are standing in the rubble of life, in the aftermath of loss and suffering, He knows and He is there with you.

The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged." Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV

Until next time, no matter what hurdles life has put in your way, know that God will see you through them.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

Are you struggling with the aftermath of life’s problems and feel there is no place to turn or no one who will understand? Turn to the one who can help, look to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
