GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #452 March 24, 2002

The Web

The morning sunshine made the dewdrops look like transparent jewels. They hung on the almost invisible silken threads of a spider’s web. The web was intricately designed and well placed to catch any number of flying insects in the area.

I don’t know how much time and work went into making it, but I knew it represented the entire universe of some spider. Hours of intense labour, extruding each piece of silk from her own body went into its creation.

Unfortunately, the web also covered an open door frame that I had to bring some things through. There was no way of bringing them out without destroying the web, so with a bit of a heavy heart I knocked the web out of the way and went about my business.

A few days later I happened to look again and the web was back. I had to knock it down as I got something from the shed. The cycle of rebuild and destroy went on all summer long. I had to admire her persistence.

Sometimes our Christian walk can be like that spider’s web. We get it all together for a brief period of time, then life comes along, or we do something stupid, and it gets all knocked apart.

When that happens, the key is to remember that we serve a loving, patient, forgiving God. Confess our mistakes, let Him pick us up out of the dirt and pick up where we left off.

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:12-14 NIV

Until next time, when you fall or life knocks you down, take a lesson from my persistent spider, get up and push onto the prize.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

Do you have a relationship with this God who will pick you up when life knocks you down, the one who will forgive your mistakes?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
