GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #447 March 19, 2002 Flopping Fish Just after a huge storm, I walked along the beach watching the tide recede. Sometimes on the beaches of Vancouver Island, the most interesting things will wash ashore. The west coast of the island (towards the open Pacific) got better "stuff", like glass fishing balls from Japan, but even on the east side (towards the mainland) we got interesting driftwood and other fascinating but valueless junk. Stranded a few inches from the water line was a small fish. It was too big for the tide pool and was flopping about. If it hadnt flopped, I probably would have walked right by and never noticed it was there. If it stayed in the pool, I dont suppose it would have lived very long. If it didnt suffocate, one of the nearby gulls or eagles would have eaten it. I grabbed it by the tail and threw it back into the water. I dont know if it lived or died, but I felt better for having "done something" about it. Over the many years since that day, Ive come to recognize how often we are like that fish. We get out of our element and we flop about, powerless to help ourselves, totally dependant upon others. Unlike the fish, we dont have to wait on some passer-by to notice us. We can turn to an all-powerful God in prayer and trust in Him. But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. I will sing to the LORD, for he has been good to me. Psalm 13:5-6 NIV Until next time, long before you reach the end of your own power and control, remember the true source of power and turn to Him. Hallelu Yah Kevin Are you flopping around, gasping for breath in the circumstances of your life? Are you at the end of your rope and uncertain where to turn? Look to Jesus for real help and answers Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
