GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #439 March 11, 2002 Stale Springs It was brutally hot and we were driving miles from nowhere. Digging around in the van, I found a half full bottle of mountain spring water. I knew it had been there a while, but I was in deep need of a drink. Well, the best thing that could about it was it was wet. In time the fresh mountain spring water had become stale and foul. The same thing can happen to us as Christians. We get filled with the living water of Jesus and then it can just sit in us and becomes stale. He designed us to be channels for His love not reservoirs. Our living water is the freshest and most vibrant when we share it with others and He replenishes us. When people share His love, they feel filled with joy and recharged. When they hoard it or hide it, the joy becomes ritual or He seems distant. Even the freshest of springs can become nothing more than a smelly, stagnant pond if its pent up long enough. Springs are designed to bubble up and flow, not be held back. Though I am free and belong to no man, I make myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God's law but am under Christ's law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all men so that by all possible means I might save some. I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings. 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 NIV Hows your spring of Living Water? Is it bubbling out to refresh others, or is it just sitting becoming stagnant? Until next time, may your dam burst and the waters flow forth to bring life to the thirsty. Hallelu Yah Kevin Have you ever experienced the joy of the Living Water of Jesus or tasted the refreshment of His love and forgiveness? If not, email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
