GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #433 March 5, 2002 Praise Plant It grows in ditches across North America and Europe, and likely elsewhere as well. To some its a beautiful flower, to others a persistent and noxious weed. It comes in a variety of colours, white, gold (yellow), pink, and red. It goes by a variety of names, Millefolium, milfoil, thousand-leaf, thousand-leaf clover, gordoloba, green arrow, soldiers' woundwort, nosebleed, dog daisy, bloodwort, sanguinary, carpenter grass, old-man's-pepper, and cammock. Herbalists have used it for centuries to treat a variety of illness both real and imagined. In fact it is one of the earliest known medicinal herbs. "It" is common every day yarrow. Its a pretty enough flower and I have been known to grow it in my garden. Its hardy, flowers a long time and adds a splash of subtle color where other things might not grow. What I really like about yarrow though, is the way the flowers grow. Yarrow is an umbel which means the stalks of the flower come off a single point and look like the upside down ribs of an umbrella. It seems to me that the flower is always stretching out as far as it can to reach for and praise God. It is almost as if yarrow had been reading the book of Psalms I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. Psalm 63:4 NIV Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the LORD. Psalm 134:2 NIV Even the flowers of the fields and ditches make time to praise God. Do you? Until next time, may your heart and hands be lifted in praise. Hallelu Yah Kevin Do you have a relationship with this God Im speaking of praising? Do you know that the Creator of the world knows you exist and cares about you? Do you know He is simply waiting for you to ask Him to forgive you for all your mistakes? Email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible. Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
