GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Bliss and Blindness

Today’s Gleanings From The Word is late coming out because I was away last night. We just got home about 3:30 (Alberta time) this afternoon.

My wife and I spent yesterday, last night and a good part of the day today out at a retreat center. We toured the center during the day, enjoying the picturesque rural scenery and the wildlife. The retreat is situated on what used to be an old game farm overlooking a lake.

Some of the animals are still around. There is a herd of elk, a herd of wood bison (buffalo), wild boars, rabbits, horses, llamas, donkeys, a moose that thinks he’s a bison and more. A few of the animals, like Puddles the 350 lb. sow, have the run of the place and are quite used to visiting with the guests.

In the evening, we feasted on a buffet that defies description. In addition to all the "normal" buffet items, there was wild boar, elk, bison, quail, duck, frog’s legs, hot and cold seafood (crab, mussels, clams, salmon, squid, shrimp, sushi,) and more. A person could go for days and never sample all the items available.

When we left the buffet, it was cold and dark, but the sky was clear and the stars sparkled like diamonds sprinkled across black velvet.

We had just sampled a tiny portion of God’s bounty, visually and on our plates. The diversity of His work was astounding.

Yet part of my heart was darker than the night sky. Inside that beautiful building, surrounded by breathtaking scenery and feasting on foods God had prepared, were people who had never heard the gospel. Some of them were so blind, that they would look at all the evidence in front of them and say there was no such thing as God. They were in a wonderful, bliss filled world and blind to the truth.

I wondered what would have become of my life if I hadn’t discovered the joy of a relationship with Jesus. The answer wasn’t a pretty one.

How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"                   Romans 10:14-15 NIV

Have you told someone lately of the good news, or have you been content to let him or her sit in his or her blissful little world and be blind to the truth?

Until next time, may you come to realize who you are with Jesus and who you were without Him and be motivated to tell others.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

Are you looking for forgiveness, acceptance, peace and unconditional love? Are you recognizing that in the midst of your life, something is missing?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
