GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue # 535 June 30, 2002 A Vision

I’m going to share something this morning that depending on your background may seem very strange or very normal. Although I have read of similar things and talked to others who have had similar experiences, it was a first for me.

As is our custom (most days), my wife Kathy and I sat in the living room for prayer after our morning coffee. We prayed for the ministry of Gleanings, especially for those of you who read it or send prayer concerns. We prayed for family, friends, missionaries we are involved with, our home church, our local churches and more.

As Kathy was praying, I had a vision. She sat in a white band shell (you know, those half domes that musicians play in for outdoor concerts) that was located on a white rock. She was dressed in white. I’m using the word white here, but it is hard to describe, it was the brightest white I have ever seen, it was almost like a bright white light.

In front of her and agreeing in pray was an audience of people whose features I couldn’t make out. They too were dressed in the same white. The crowd stretched off in every direction as far as I could see.

Everything was so real that I had to stop and force myself to think where we really were. I remembered that we were actually in the living room praying, not in this huge white hall.

I had a sense that the crowd was the great cloud of witnesses that Scripture speaks of.

But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses. In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, I charge you to keep this command without spot or blame until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which God will bring about in his own time--God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen. 1 Timothy 6:11-16 NIV

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinful men, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. Hebrews 12:1-3 NIV

I realized that even if we are alone when we pray, we do not pray alone. When we are praying for God’s will, we have prayer support beyond anything we can comprehend.

Have you been praying for something for a long time and it hasn’t happened yet? Don’t give up; others are interceding on your behalf. Sometimes the answers are immediately apparent and other times it takes a long process for the answer to be seen.

Keep your eye on the prize and know that when you truly seek His

Will, you are seeking it in the company of others, both here on earth and in the heavenly realm as well.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin
