GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life
Issue # 534 June 29, 2002 A Blessing To God Some friends were talking about my eldest son the other day. One was commenting on what a hard worker he is. My heart was blessed. A few days before that, I was sitting around talking to both my sons (ages 21,14 -- 15 in a few days) and they both commented that my wife and I had been right on an issue. I was thrilled and blessed. I love my sons, even when they are not perfect or don’t agree with me. I’m also very blessed when they do the right thing, especially when it is spontaneous. It works the same way with God. He loves us no matter what, but there are things that we can do that bless His heart. It thrills and amazes me that there are things that we can do as individuals that please the Creator of the Universe. The fact that He knows I exist is mind boggling, the fact that He cares I exist is more so and the fact that I can bless His heart incredible beyond description. When we have faith in Him, that is a blessing to God. In fact without faith, it is impossible to please Him. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NIV Once we’ve crossed the hurdle and accepted Him by faith, many things please Him. For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. Romans 14:17-18 NIV I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 1 Timothy 2:1-3 NIV When you prayed for someone the other day, that pleased God. When you forgave someone who hurt you and chose not to lash out in anger it please God. When you let someone in during rush hour traffic; when you asked someone how they were and really listened to the answer; when you went to worship and got in tough with Him; when you took the time to read His Word; when you encouraged a friend who was feeling down, all these things were pleasing to God. The time you honoured your parents; the extra few minutes you spent making sure the job was done right even though nobody else noticed; when you went the extra mile for someone; it blessed the Lord. Our salvation comes only from Him, we can never earn it BUT we can and do many things, often without realizing it, that are a blessing to the king. Until next time, may you be aware of the things that you have done that bless the King of Kings. He is God, He lives inside you and His Spirit moves you to be more like Him.
