GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #522 June 18, 2002

Fellowship

The mini-holiday that Kathy and I took included a Sunday. That left us eight hours from home and from our regular place of worship.

I don’t like to miss worship on Sunday (or other days when I can squeeze it in) because it is a time of special blessing, time with God and a time of fellowship with other believers.

There is something extra in true fellowship. We can have great fun with our non-believing friends, but it doesn’t come close to the intimacy of sharing the love of God with other people who feel the same way.

On Sunday, we stopped at the small town of Blue River, British Columbia and went to the Evangelical Free Church for worship. It was a small congregation, but people immediately made us feel welcome and at home. The people were friendly, the music was enjoyable and the message Biblically sound.

Afterwards we spent a couple of hours over lunch with Pastor Harold and his wife Terry (whom we had never met before). It was true fellowship, an instant felling of closeness and joy that only the presence of Holy Spirit can bring.

If you’ve not been spending time lately with other believers for whatever reason, it’s time to break old habits and get back into doing just that.

If you’ve been staying away from worship or from fellowship with other Christians because they have hurt you in some way, it’s time to forgive. Check out a different church or fellowship group, return to the old one or do whatever needs to be done. The only one who wins when you stay away is Satan.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:19-25 NIV

Until next time, may you be blessed with the joy of true fellowship in the Lord.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

How can you experience true fellowship if you don’t believe in Christ? You can’t! However, the first step is to establish a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Let me introduce my friend Jesus to you.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen
