GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Meditations on the Moon

Depending on where you stand in the world, the moon can look very different. What people in the southern hemisphere see as the top of the moon, I see as the bottom. It will also look different depending on the time of evening and where it is in the monthly lunar cycle.

Regardless of where we are standing though, the moon remains the moon; it can never be the sun. It’s not one of the stars, and it’s not another planet.

No amount of wishing, hoping or well thought out arguments can change the moon into something it’s not. People may argue about it, debate it, try and ignore the fact but it will still be the moon.

They can argue all they want that all celestial bodies are the same. They may be partly correct and there may well be similarities between different celestial bodies, but the moon remains the moon. Even the moons on other planets are not the same as the moon that we see at night.

The moon isn’t true for me and not true for you. If you tried to tell someone that, they’d laugh at you and think your reasoning is off kilter at best. Your disbelief in the moon doesn’t make its presence and existence any less true.

It’s the same with God. Even though different parts of the Christian faith may disagree on some issues, they still agree that God is God. They recognize Jesus as the only way to salvation and our only hope. If they don’t believe that, they’re not Christian.

Not all religions are the same, even though they may have similarities. Jesus claimed to be the only way to salvation, either He is and that claim is true or He’s not and the faith is invalid.

There is no way to reconcile Jesus to other faiths.

If Jesus wasn’t who He claimed to be He is a liar or a lunatic and can’t be simply a good man, a great teacher or a prophet.  If He is who He claimed to be, He can’t be one of many ways because of His claim to be the only way.

God can’t be true for me and not for you. Either He’s God or He’s not. We each have to make our own decisions about whether we accept that fact, but His existence doesn’t hinge on our belief or lack thereof.

We can wish and hope and argue until we’re blue in the face, but we can’t change the fact that either Jesus is God and the only way to salvation or He’s not.

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6 NIV

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

Hebrews 13:8 NIV

We can’t sit on the fence. The moon is the moon regardless of our perception and beliefs. Jesus is Jesus regardless of our perceptions and beliefs. There’s no middle ground you must make a choice. We are called to make a conscious choice to accept or reject Him, ignoring the issue is the same as rejecting Him.

Personally, I’ve seen enough compelling evidence to base my future in eternity on Jesus. He’s not simply one path, He’s not true for me but not for you, belief in Him is not the same as any other system of religion.

Until next time, my prayer is that if you haven’t already done so you examine His claims and make a decision.  If you have already made the decision to accept Him, spend a few minutes in His Word and in prayer today getting to know Him better, after all you’ll be spending eternity with Him.

Hallelu Yah

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen
