GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue# 518 June 11, 2002

A Dry Time

The lake I walk around every day is in trouble. The water levels are down dramatically and it isn’t a big lake.

Part of the problem is that the weather has been unusually dry, not only here but also across much of the prairie provinces of Canada. The biggest part of the problem is that the county is using it as a source of water to irrigate the greens of a nearby golf course.

Life can be like that sometimes. We all go through spiritually dry times where we don’t feel close to God. Worship doesn’t have the same impact it used to, we don’t pray as much and we don’t spend as much time in the Word.

However, we often compound that dryness through our own actions. Sometimes we get so focused on the things of the world that we pull away from the things of God. Other times, we’ve fallen down into a pit of sin. We didn’t mean to go there; just slipped a bit and suddenly we’re in over our heads.

It can seem as if God is so far away. Our prayers don’t feel answered; we’ve lost that sense of intimacy.

It isn’t that God has moved. He’s there still with His arms stretched wide. We’re the ones who need to examine our hearts and turn around to Him in repentance and with open hearts.

The key to getting through those periods of dryness is to stay well rooted in God.

"But blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit." Jeremiah 17:7-8 NIV

God’s word to Jeremiah doesn’t say there won’t be dry times, but it does share the key to making it through them and still thrive. Trust in the Lord.

Until next time, if you are facing a drought in your life, turn back to the source of Living Water and be refreshed.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah.

Kevin

Is your life like a drought, all problems and no source of refreshment? Turn to a personal relationship with Christ.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen
