GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Slip of the Tongue

As I drove into the city yesterday, I was on a bit of a tight time line. Not really rushed but not relaxed either. Traffic was smooth sailing, the lights were all green, my lane was clear and I was cruising along at the speed limit.

Suddenly, a van veered out from the lane to my right without signalling or warning of any kind. The driver was talking on his cell phone and was travelling about 20 mph below the limit. I suspect he probably didn’t even see me. Suddenly traffic was backed up behind us as far as you can see.

I must confess that old habits die hard. The first words out of my mouth were not "Be blessed today with the pleroma (fullness) of God."  They were words that I have by and large removed from my vocabulary since becoming a Christian.

Within seconds of the words coming out, I was praying a pray of repentance and asking for the Lord to bless the other driver and keep him safe. It never ceases to amaze me how quickly we can go from calm to outrage. Scripture is right; the tongue is a terrible thing to tame.

Or take ships as an example. Although they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are steered by a very small rudder wherever the pilot wants to go. Likewise the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. James 3:4-8 NIV

Out of our mouth can come both words of blessing or curses.

The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit Proverbs 15:4 NIV

He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity. Proverbs 21:23 NIV

What has you tongue been doing lately? Spreading words that cut and divide or words that heal? Words that wound or words that bless? Words that bless the Lord or words that bless the enemy?

Until next time, may your tongue be well controlled and offer blessings instead of curses.

Be blessed and feel the pleroma of God today.

Hallelu Yah

Do you know the Lod that will forgive all your sins, from the simple sin of a slip of the tongue to the deepest darkest sin that you’ve never shared with anyone?

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
