GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life
Issue #509 June 2, 2002 Brick Walls I dont know that Ive ever physically run into a brick wall in my life, but our old house had a brick chimney that jutted out from the wall and I ran into it more than once. I can attest to the fact that my body gave in and the brick still stood. Bricks and concrete blocks are great building materials because of their durability. When youre working with them though you sometimes run into situations where you need to cut one of them in half. If you smash it with a hammer, it may break, but almost never the way you want it to. If you use the claw of the hammer and by tapping, gently score lines along both sides of the blocks or brick, it will break cleanly where you want it to. Sometimes we pray for something and it seems like the prayers are bouncing back from heaven unanswered as if they hit a brick wall. At times we struggle with persistent barriers to our walk with God, it seems every time we get up and start moving they bounce us right off again. Dont be discouraged. Persevere. Keep on praying and keep on trying. Each time you are scoring the line a little more and with patience it will break. Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4 NIV God promises us that we are overcomers. Sometimes we overcome the enemy in great strides and victories; the walls just crumble before us like they did at Jericho. Other times we overcome by gentle tapping and persistence. Until next time, know that whatever obstacles you face, God has a plan for you. Keep on tapping. Be blessed today. Hallelu Yah Kevin Do you know that God who overcomes all obstacles in our lives? If not email me and Ill share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of: Dear God: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential?
