GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 215 July 31, 2001 More Than Meets The Eye
I looked through a box of toys that came out of my sons room. Towards the bottom were a couple of Transformers, those toys that, when you pulled them apart and moved the pieces, changed from robots into cars or other vehicles. Through several series and evolutions, they ebbed and flowed in popularity. Some became insects, others became dinosaurs. They were a popular cartoon on television. I remember part of the song from the first series; Transformers, more than meets the eye. Transformers, robots in disguise. Its always fascinating to watch one thing transform into another. Caterpillars become butterflies. Bulbs and seeds become flowers. Babies become toddlers, preschoolers, school kids, preteens, teens, and eventually adults.Or in the vernacular of my youth, floor fleas become ankle biters. Ankle biters become knuckle draggers. Knuckle draggers become house apes. House apes become yard apes. Yard apes become, well I forget what they become, but there are definite transformations happening. The same can happen with us. We can be transformed from sinners to saints. From ungodly to Christ like. We become more than meets they eye, although we become anything but robots. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:2 NIV Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV Until next time, be aware that despite your flaws, if you have accepted Christ you are a work in progress. You are more than meets the eye, Christ lives within you. I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6 NIV
