GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 213 July 29, 2001 TRUST I recently saw a circus tent and it got me thinking about a time I went to a circus as a child. I dont remember what circus, and Im not sure how old I was, but two things stick out in my mind. I remember the elephants. Probably because I love animals and there is something very friendly seeming about elephants. I remember the trapeze artists. The way they swing bank and forth and jump through the air trusting their partners to catch them. I dont know how high it really was, but to my young eyes they seemed miles in the sky. It took my breath away, and even frightened me some as they would let go. Lots of jobs require trust. A police office must trust his/her partner. A client must trust a lawyer. A patient must trust a doctor. Trust is important in many aspects of life. Relationships are built on trust. Relationships can be destroyed when that trust has been betrayed. When trust is betrayed, marriages can collapse, businesses can fail and in extreme cases lives can be lost. Once you lose trust in someone, it is hard for him/her to gain it back. Sometimes people have been hurt so many times that they dont trust anyone. They live lives of hurt, anger and loneliness. When we do trust, even those who love us most can betray the trust we place in them, or let us down in other ways. It can happen unintentionally because of poor communication, or the best of intentions that go astray. There is though a place of trust where we can go, where we will never be disappointed. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge. PSALM 62:5-8 NIV Until next time, may you learn to trust the unfailing one fully with all aspects of your life. God bless. Kevin Been hurt? Let down? Find it hard to trust? Turn to the unfailing source of real trust, God himself. If you have never experienced how comforting it is to have complete trust, email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that will show why a personal relationship with Jesus is important and a prayer that will make it possible. © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
