GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 211 July 27, 2001 A Days Fishing
Yesterday I spent the day fishing with a good friend. It was a long and tiring day, but worth every moment of tiredness this morning. The weather was great. It was pouring rain when we left to go, but up at the lake, it was nice enough that I ended up with a sunburn. On the drive and while we fished, we solved the worlds problems, debated theology, talked about family and caught some nice fish to boot. He caught more fish than I did, but whos counting? One the way up to the lake we saw a coyote and a whitetail doe. We saw another doe on the way back. We saw a pair of magpies harassing a resting owl as we drove home. There were osprey, pelicans, cormorants, herons, ducks, grebes, loons and more at the lake. We were serenaded by blackbirds, chickadees, robins and more. Beaver warned others of our presence by slapping their tail on the water and diving under and away. The lake was full of life. Billions of baby fish were everywhere we looked. Several varieties of snail and huge fresh water clams were abundant. Damsel flies and dragon flies fuzzed the boat. It was impossible not to look at the diversity of life and not wonder where it all came from. The variety of life forms and the sheer numbers of them just boggle my mind. How can people look around them and not see the hand of God? The Scripture says we are without excuse, there is no reason not to see Gods hand For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Romans 1:20 NIV His presence is all around us. All of creation testifies that He is real. All we need do is open our eyes and look. Until next time, may you take the time to reflect on the majesty of His presence in the world around you. God bless. Kevin If you have ever looked around you and wondered if there is a God, know that there is. He is real and He wants to have a relationship with you. Please email me and Ill share a few Bible verses that will explain why a relationship with Him is important and a prayer that will make it possible. Dont ignore the evidence that is in front of your eyes. The decision to accept or reject Jesus is the most important thing you will ever do. © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
