GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life
Issue # 203 July 19, 2001 BLANK SCREEN
Sometimes, as I sit here preparing to write Gleanings for the day, God speaks clearly to me. The inspiration and the Scripture come quickly to my mind and fingertips. Other times, I sit down with an idea or Scripture in mind and begin writing. Part way through, God tells me thats what YOU want to write, not what I want you to write. Then I start over. Still other times, I get up and stare at the blank screen. I pray and I read my Bible. I wait and I pray some more. I wait still longer and nothing comes. Im not a person who waits very well for things. Im usually more of a charge ahead guy and let the detail person clean up the debris as I go. I argue with God, I dont want to wait. Well its more of a one sided argument, because He doesnt reply. I silently scream Come on God, the screen wont fill itself. Ive got other things to do. I fidget in my chair, check my email, look out the window and do a dozen other things. When I get like that, I know Im not really waiting on God, Im trying to fit Him into my schedule, not put Him first. I have learned (and am still learning) through practice that, if I am persistent, the inspiration He has for me comes through. He is always faithful. Life can be like that. We want to know what to do and we dont want to wait. We cry out to God and hear silence in return. We do things OUR way and they dont work. Sometimes we must just wait for His timing. "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalm 46:10 NIV Sometimes we are to be still and wait while He puts other things in place. Moses answered the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still." Exodus 14:13-14 NIV If it seems like it has been forever, continue to trust, to be still. He is God and He has it planned out. Until next time, may you make the time to be still and listen to the quiet voice of God. May He guide you and lead you in all you do. God bless. Kevin © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
