GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 201 July 17, 2001 A Privilege
Wow! Its hard to believe that Ive written over two hundred of these things. They havent quite been consecutive as I took two days off in June. In some ways Im surprised that I have had something to say every day. Some of my friends will tell you that they arent surprised because I always have something to say. It may not be right, profound or particularly wise, but I always have an opinion. Im awed that God has allowed me to share a fresh Gleanings every morning. I dont write them in advance, but wait for His leading each day. Where Gleanings has been right on and hit your heart, the glory belongs to God. If it has missed the mark, we must blame my writing, or your heart. Sometimes it feels like Gleanings is quite wise and profound and other times it is just okay. Often my interpretation of which is which, differs from the mail I have received. I have written columns that seemed bang on and had virtually no feedback. Other ones I wasnt so sure about and people wrote me and shared how their lives have changed or that they had accepted Jesus, because the Lord used Gleanings to touch their hearts. I think it is that way no matter what ministry we are called to. One of my favourite Scriptures about ministry is: Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV If you seek Him, trust His leading and are obedient to His call, He will use whatever you do in His name. It truly is a blessing to be permitted to serve the Lord. When I stop and think that the creator of the whole universe lets me help in my small way, I am stupefied. How can He even know I exist, let alone trust me to help? Service to God is a privilege not a dreary duty. If you are serving out of a sense out guilt or obligation, perhaps you are serving in the wrong way. Look around and see where He is calling you. For me it is writing. For you? Ask God and He will show you. Until next time, may you know the rich blessing of being allowed to serve the great I AM. God bless.
