GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 197 July 13, 2001 A New Prayer
I was recently at a prayer meeting and heard a Scripture used in a way that I had not heard before. Ive heard a lot of prayers, and Ive read a lot of books on the subject, but never encountered this Scripture used in quite this way before. To some of you, perhaps its old hat, but of me, it was a bit of a paradigm shift. [Jesus is speaking] I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Matthew 16:19 NIV This Scripture has usually been used to tie up the forces of the enemy and to reduce their effectiveness. The prayer was different. While I may not have it verbatim, having heard it only once, the gist of it is as follows Lord: Bind us to your hands and feet that we may do your work on earth. Bind us to your eyes that we might see people as you see them. To your mind that we might have your wisdom and discernment. Bind us to your heart that we might know your love and show it to the world. Amen Thats my simple prayer for each of you today. That you be bound to Christ. Until next time, may you be knitted together in every way with the Father. God bless. Kevin © 2001 K.F. "Kevin" Corbin All Rights Reserved |
