GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Encountering an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 187 July 03, 2001 A Letter I saw you today. Ill bet you didnt even know I was there, but I saw you. I watched while you talked with a friend. You laughed, you joked and seemed to be having so much fun. I waited for you to notice me and talk to me too, but you didnt. I didnt want to be considered rude and interrupt, so I just waited in vain. I knew all about it last week when you were feeling so hurt and angry. Life seemed so unfair and you didnt know where to turn. You could have reached out to me, I would have understood. I would have been there for you. But, you didnt and I couldnt help. You got up this morning and rushed into your day. I hoped for a few minutes of your time before you got too busy, but I was disappointed. Maybe youd take a few minutes during the day and touch base, but I guess you didnt think of me. I thought surely then before bedtime, but you were too tired and fell right asleep. My heart aches. I want a relationship with you more than anything. A real relationship, where we share, not just a passing acknowledgment of my existence. I have so much to offer you. Its yours for the asking. Ill just wait some more, I wont intrude and force my affection on you. Ill be here when you need me. Jesus I watched a television program the other night that wondered what a letter from Jesus might look like. The one you just read is my attempt. He is there longing to be part of our lives, but we so often ignore Him. He loves us enough to have given His life for us, yet we dont seem to care. We deny Him, we disobey Him and we distrust Him. I can only imagine how much His heart must ache. I think back to the pangs of unrequited adolescent love. I think of the times as an adult I wanted to share in someones life and they were too busy for me. Then I try and multiply it by a factor of billions and my mind staggers. I cant comprehend it. By all rational means, He should write us off an get on with His life. Thankfully He doesnt. He loves us, and waits patiently but He wont wait forever. We dont know when His patience will run out. "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. Matthew 24:42-44 NIV Run and embrace Him. Take time today from your schedule and spend it with Him. Until next time, may you savour the comfort of being in His presence. God bless Kevin If you dont have a personal relationship with this Jesus I just spoke of, email me. Ill share a few Bible verses that explain why it is important and a prayer that will make it possible. He wants for you, with gifts of unconditional love, forgiveness, acceptance and eternal life.
