GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #390 January 21, 2002

Trial and Error

I’m trying to learn how to use HTML. I do my web pages with a wysiwyg (what you see is what you get) editor that hides all the coding. It’s easy to use, but has its limitations.

It’s a process of trial and error. I’m working through a basic tutorial and learning as I go. I’d like to be able to give you Gleanings in the morning with a little more colour, so I’m plodding away at learning.

The funny thing about learning for most of us, in most areas of life, is that we don’t generally hear or see things once and then know exactly how to do them.

We hear, see and try. Then we repeat the process until we get it right.

Sometimes though we grow discouraged and stop before we get it right. That happens with many Christians, we struggle with things in our life then grow discouraged and quit.

Don’t give up.

Scripture tells us to aim for perfection,

Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace. And the God of love and peace will be with you. 2 Corinthians 13:11b NIV

But it doesn’t say we will have to get there. Eventually, He will finish what He started with us, but it is a process

I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1: 3-6 NIV

While you’re struggling through trial and error, remember that His love and your salvation don’t depend on you being perfect.

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV

Keep on working towards being Christ like, don’t give up, and don’t despair when you fall. Simply dust yourself off, take it to Him in prayer and keep on moving.

Until next time, may you be encouraged and grow more like Him every day.

God bless.

Kevin

Have you wondered about a relationship with God but felt unworthy? We’re all imperfect and unworthy, but He loves us and accepts us anyway.

To find out a little more about the God who takes you right where you are at, email me. I’ll share a few Bible verses that explain why that relationship is important and a prayer that will make it possible.

He is the God who love and accepts the fallen, the broken, and the imperfect and transforms them into things of beauty.
