GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue # 388 January 19, 2002

Priorities

Our Internet is provided via cable. It wasn’t working last night, but I was certain it would be up and running this morning. I got up, turned the computer on and had no Internet access.

Now what? I’ve got Gleanings to do, email to answer, my wife has an online course to work on and I have a workshop to give this morning. Panic, froth and oh yes, then pray.

The man on the other end of the telephone line was helpful and pleasant, a real joy to deal with. He walked me through 15 minutes of so of troubleshooting, at the end of which we found the problem was found and resolved. The splitter that sends one line to the modem and the other to the television was not working. About $3.00 worth of technology could have ruined my whole day.

It’s amazing how we let those little things get to us. Where was God on my list of thing to do? Number three, preceded by panic and anger.

If I had taken the time to pray about it first, I’m certain much of the anxiety would have been reduced or removed entirely. For just a few minutes I had forgotten what a wonderful sense of peace can be present with Him.

I had forgotten one of the basic truths of the faith

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4-7 NIV

How about you today? Are you rejoicing and enjoying His peace or are you frantic about something that is ultimately inconsequential.

Until next time, may you remember to put Him first and rejoice.

God bless.

Kevin

Do you know the Price of Peace? Do you have a personal relationship with Him? If not email me and I’ll share a few Bible verses that explain why that relationship is important and a prayer that will make it possible.
