GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #385 January 16, 2002 Shaken not stirred No, I’m not going to write about fictional secret agents or martinis, although I confess that this line has stuck in my head for years. This line has a great deal to do with the state of the world today. The prophet Isaiah wrote of God telling Him: Therefore I will make the heavens tremble; and the earth will shake from its place at the wrath of the LORD Almighty, in the day of his burning anger. Isaiah 13:13 NIV He is shaking the very earth on its foundation. I don’t just mean in terms of natural disasters, although there are earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, weather pattern changes and more going on. He is shaking the whole earth and everything on it. War, hatred, sin, blasphemy, increasing crime rates, violence of every form, starvation, and epidemics are all around us. Are we stirred into action? Are those being shaken stirred into crying out for the Almighty to save them? Some are, but far too many are literally shaken but not stirred. How about you? When you look at the mighty shaking the world is in are you stirred to repentance and action or do you just sit and whine?
