GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #381 January 12, 2002 Welcome to the Real World A comment made by a family member about my son being at Bible College got my wife and I thinking. Its the same type of comment Ive heard about my ministry, and my faith walk. It is a comment made by well-intentioned people, frequently non-Christians or nominal Christians. I dont recall it verbatim, but it goes along the lines of "What will happen when he gets back in the real world?" Its a comment that causes us to stop and think, and if were not careful, we buy into that philosophy of "the church" vs. "the real world". Its true that they are different but the thinking is lopsided and twisted. The "real world" is the world of truth. Jesus is the truth Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. John 14:6a NIV The real world is one in which we were created in the image of God and walked with Him in paradise So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 NIV It isnt that Christians live outside the "real" world; were simply outnumbered by those who live the life of a lie. They live in a horrific, distorted, fun house image of the real world. Oh yes, we still experience lifes pains, setbacks and losses, but the peace we have in our hearts triumphs over all of these things. The reality is that the non-believer lies in an unreal world, a world without eternal consequences and without hope, a world where love is an illusion and truth is relative. They spend their lives frantically trying to find what we have, even if they dont recognize it. Next time someone invites you to a reality check, offer him or her the same and tell them about Jesus. Until next time, may you be saved from buying into the lie that the world of darkness is the real world and remember that reality lies in the way of the Lord. God bless.
