GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 376 January 7, 2002 Highway Lights Yesterday, my wife and I drove my son Kris and a friend back to Bible College after their Christmas break. The campus is nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains several hours away from home. By the time we got them there, unloaded their gear and said our goodbyes, it was dark. It was the kind of pitch-blackness that you can almost feel. As we drove down the rural, secondary highway, the blackness was so thick that our headlights seemed to have to slice their way through. It wasnt enough for them to shine; they had to work at pushing the darkness out of the way. As we drove along the way, up on the near horizon I could see the lights of the main highway about a mile away. They were bright and comforting. It seemed to take forever to reach them. The initial vantage point was from the top of one hill to the top of another. In reality we had a long stretch down the one side of the hill and up the other before we got there. The lights from the highway were in fact eight miles from where we saw them first. Life is like that, it can be a long journey in the darkness towards the light, but a light can shine a long way. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 NIV Never give up hope for those in your life who dont know Jesus. Keep on shining, many of them have a long way to travel. As long as they have a light to guide them, there can be direction and hope. Without your light, all may be as black as that country road. Until next time, may the light of your witness been seen by all from a great distance. God bless Kevin Are you wandering about in the darkness of life and looking for direction?
