GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Today marks an anniversary of sorts. The first Gleanings was published January 1, 2001. In the first year we were blessed by sharing in the lives of thousands of readers as they told us about prayer concerns and joys or made decisions to accept Jesus as their personal Saviour. Thank you for your loyalty. Issue # 370 January 1, 2002 STILLNESS The snow was up past my knees. I was learning to snowshoe and spent more time falling than I did walking on top of the snow. Getting back up on the snowshoe and refastening the binding proved to be quite a chore. After a while I started to get the hang of things and began covering a fair distance down the trail. I stopped to catch my breath because travelling on snowshoes can be hard work. As I rested I looked around me, taking in the view. Sitting under a fallen tree about ten feet from me was a snowshoe rabbit (for you detail people, technically known as a North American Varying Hare). Its white fur blended in almost perfectly with the snow, if I hadnt stopped to catch my breath I would never have seen it. It was perfectly still and looked calm. I knew that its appearance was deceiving, because the stillness was to keep me from seeing it. In reality, it was totally alert and ready to spring into action if I made a threatening move. If I got too close, it would run down the trail until it felt safe again. Sometimes we need to be like that rabbit. We need to sit still and listen for God. Not with a passive stillness, but with an alert stillness, ready to do what He calls us to do. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes Psalm 37:7 NIV Take some time on this first day of the new year and in stillness reflect on how the Lord has blessed you. Listen for what He is calling you to do for Him this year. Until next time, may you always make some time for stillness. God bless. Kevin Do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?
