GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Fresh Bread

I love the smell and taste of fresh baked bread.

We recently bought a bread maker and I have been trying it out. I used to make bread years ago, but it always seemed to be too much work and too much effort to clean all that mess up afterwards.

With this new machine, I throw the ingredients for one loaf into the pan, turn the machine on and can have a loaf of fresh bread in as little as 56 minutes. Cleanup consists of washing my measuring utensils and the bread pan. It’s been great.

Bread is a staple of life throughout the world. I don’t know of too many cultures (if any) that don’t have some form of bread. They vary in ingredients and styles but for most cultures it is a major source of food.

The Bible mentions bread 250 times. Usually it is the context of the common every day things that people would eat. It was such an important part of life that in the tabernacle, there were even special offerings of bread (shewbread in the KJV) recognizing and symbolizing (amongst other things) that all things come from God.

When Jesus called himself the bread of life, He knew how important the daily bread was in people’s lives.

Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."  John 6:35-40 NIV

As the bread of life, He is a central part of everyday ordinary life.

Is the part of the bread of your life? Or is he simply special occasion bread that comes out now and then for show or emergencies?

Until next time, may time with Jesus truly be a staple of your everyday life.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

Do you hunger for something more than your life is giving you right now? Perhaps you are missing a relationship with the bread of life.

Email me and I’ll share some Bible verses that explain why a personal relationship with Jesus is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.

Or simply begin the relationship by saying a prayer along the lines of:

Dear God:

I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord.

Amen

If you pray this prayer let me know and I will direct you to some free non-denominational resources that will help you grow in that newfound relationship.
