GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue #422 February 22, 2002

Patience

Yesterday was not a particularly good day. It was however interesting.

It started out simply enough with my youngest son and I running a few errands (he’s home because the teachers union is on strike). It was on the way home that things got interesting.

We drove over a railroad track and suddenly the steering on the van began to do all sorts of weird things. I pulled over to the side of the road and looked. Everything seemed okay.

We started out again and everything was running fine. A mile or so down the road, the steering went berserk again so we pulled into a parking lot and had a look. The tie rod end seemed a little loose but otherwise okay. I decided to cripple the van home.

As we backed out of the spot, the tie rod broke, leaving me with no steering. I called a tow truck.

Now if you have known me for any length of time, this is about the point I would normally have gone berserk with frustration. Nothing! I remained perfectly calm. All I could think of was "Thank God that it hadn’t been out on the highway home."

I called my wife and asked her to pick us up at the service station. By the time we got there with the tow truck she was already waiting. She asked me to not let the tow truck go because the battery on the car died and she needed a boost.

That should have been the last straw to driving me into rage. Again, instead of getting angry, I was thankful. The car had waited to die until she got to the service station.

Before becoming a believer in Christ, I had a horrific, violent temper. The longer I know Him, the calmer I become. He truly transforms people.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.  Galatians 5:22-25 NIV

What are you struggling with? Perhaps it is an area that you need to let Him work on in your life.

Until next time, may you be filled with His peace that surpasses all understanding.

Hallelu Yah

Kevin

Are you facing struggles with anger and other issues? Perhaps a personal relationship with Jesus is the answer. Email me and I’ll share a few verses that explain why that relationship is so important and a prayer that will make it possible.
