GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

OVERCOMERS

As I walked around the farm, I was oblivious to anything around me. I was deep in thought about something, although I don’t remember what it was.

I came across a pile of decaying straw bales and the sight stopped me dead in my tracks. Now, there is nothing unusual about old straw bales on a farm, but what I saw on them took me aback.

It was a fully-grown stalk of wheat. From roots to the top of the stalk, it was not as long as my thumb.

Some kernel of wheat had sprouted, grown despite the odds and was setting seed. There must have been very little available in the way of nutrition for it, but it struggled to survive, overcame the odds and did what it was called to do.

That little stalk of wheat had a bigger impact on me than any field of wheat I have ever seen.

It can be like that in our walk with Christ. Sometimes we are in poor growing conditions and we feel like we’re struggling all the time. We look around and we see big ministries preparing for big harvests and we wonder what good our pitiful little contribution does to the effort.

I believe God looks at those believers in tough circumstances with special love. He knows that every bit of fruit they produce was produced through tremendous sacrifice and effort and He blesses that harvest.

That’s why the church thrives in countries where Christians are persecuted and flounders where there is freedom. The church in China, India and elsewhere is in a phase of rapid growth, while attendance at North American churches declines.

Are you in a tough situation, struggling to make it in your walk and only planting small seeds? Hang in there, He knows, He is watching and He will reward you.

Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.   1 John 5:5 NIV

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.  Revelation 2:7 NIV

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt at all by the second death.            Revelation 2:11 NIV

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it. Revelation 2:17 NIV

To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations Revelation 2:26 NIV

He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels Revelation 3:5 NIV

Him who overcomes I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will he leave it. I will write on him the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on him my new name.       Revelation 3:12 NIV

To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne        Revelation 3:21 NIV

He who overcomes will inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be my son   Revelation 21:7 NIV

Until next time, focus on what lies ahead, and overcome the world by His power and strength.

Hallelu Yah
