GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #410 February 10, 2002 Everything Old My fourteen-year-old son has been playing Nintendo of late. The Nintendo had long been relegated to the garage because of newer, better and faster machines, but a friend had recently spoken of how much fun some of the old games were to play. Suddenly, Nintendo is "cool" again. Now that his Nintendo machine is "antique", its popular again. The same desire for the "old days" is shown with the popularity of "That 70s Show" and its spin off "That 80s Show" on television. When I was a teen we watched "Happy Days" which glorified the 1950s. It reminds me of that old song lyric which says, "Everything old is new again." King Solomon was certainly on target when he observed What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 NIV While some old things fade for a while and then resurface later as a style or fad, the oldest thing that is new never goes out of style. God was there before the creation of the world and He will be there when it all ceases to exist. He loves us before we were born, He will love us after we die and He loves us new every day. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21-23 NIV Until next time, rejoice in the fact that His love, mercy and grace for us are new every morning. Everything old truly is new again.
