GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue # 405 February 5, 2002 Pipeline There is a big new commercial development going in on the outskirts of town. The developers have felled the trees and cleared the land. As I drove by yesterday, I noticed that they had begun to lay out the pipeline that will bring in natural gas to the new development. There must have been a mile of pipe laid end to end. None of the pieces had been welded together yet; they were only roughly laid out. Until they were properly connected the pipeline was useless. Christians have a direct pipeline to God in the form of prayer, yet most of the time it stays unconnected. We rush around fighting lifes battles on our own and only when we run out of options do we remember to stop and pray. Yet prayer is the beginning, not the last resort. God is speaking about building the temple here, but I believe it applies to us as well: If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place. 2 Chronicles 7:14-15 NIV Humble ourselves and pray, NOT do busy work for God then stop and pray as a last resort. Hows your pipeline to God? Has it been disconnected for a while? Perhaps its time to make prayer a priority in your life. Until next time, may your pipeline to God be fully open at all times.
