GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life Issue #401 February 1, 2002 The First Step He stood there holding onto a set of parallel bars for dear life. The casts were just off, the operation was a success and he needed to learn to walk. The therapist encouraged him to take a step, and he fearfully complied. He took another and collapsed, exhausted. Over time, through much encouragement, some badgering and a great deal of patience of behalf of the therapist, whom sometimes he loved and sometimes he hated, he learned to walk again. The joy at gaining his freedom was incredible. Suddenly all the pain didnt matter; he could walk! A few short months of hard work and frustration but a lifetime of freedom gained. Thanks to the missionaries of CBMI (Christian Blind Mission International), he would no longer be an outcast, forced to crawl around and beg for a living. Were not much different. We may (or may not) be able to walk, but were outcasts in so many ways because of our sin. We take that first halting step forward by accepting Jesus. As we grow in our knowledge of and faith in Him, sometimes its easy and sometimes He disciplines us. We grow angry with Him because times are hard, and we love Him when things are easy. Yet nothing can compare to what we gain for all eternity. No matter where you are in your faith walk, keep on stepping out in trust. Baby steps, giant leaps and anything in between, He is there to help you. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. Psalm 9:10 NIV But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. Psalm 13:5 NIV Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV Until next time, may you learn to trust Him fully with everything. God bless. Kevin Are you looking for someone you can really trust?
