GLEANINGS FROM THE WORD

Experiencing an extraordinary God in ordinary life

Issue 729 February 11, 2003 - A Simple Formula

I'm leaving early this morning to have some minor eye surgery done. That precludes writing a full issue of Gleanings From The Word, so I thought I would just share a thought with you. Look forward to a normal issue of Gleanings From The Word tomorrow.

What is Christianity? Can it be reduced to a simple formula? I think in many ways it can be.

Christians are:

  • Dead in sin

  • Until made alive in Christ

  • Loved by God

  • Recipients of His mercy

  • Seated with Christ in heaven

  • Saved

  • By grace

  • Through faith

  • To do good works

There are many facets of the Christian life that a bare boned formula like this leaves out but it covers many of the nuts and bolts of who we were, who we are and how we got that way.

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions--it is by grace you have been saved. And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus, in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace, expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:1-10 NIV

There is nothing in Christianity that makes us "better" than other people. We're simply sinners who have accepted the abundant love and mercy of a loving God.

Until next time, may you ponder the significance of the gift of your salvation and give God the praise and glory.

Be blessed.

Hallelu Yah (Praise God)!

Kevin

YOU ARE

Once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour, you are delightful to God.

For the LORD takes delight in his people; he crowns the humble with salvation.

Psalm 149:4 NIV

Never let the enemy tell you that you are worthless or insignificant. You have value in the eyes of God so great that it was worth dying for. You are a blessing to the world.

Christianity is the least exclusive and most wonderful club in the world. God will accept you no matter who you are or what you have done if you will just trust and believe. Membership benefits include His mercy, His love, His grace and eternal life with Him. If you want to know how that's possible simply email us and we'll send you some Bible verses that will explain it to you

You can simply begin the relationship by honestly and completely opening your heart, admitting you need God's help, and saying a prayer along the lines of:

Jesus: I have made many mistakes in my life and done things I am not proud of. I have sinned. I need your love and forgiveness. I believe that you came into this world and gave your life on a cross to pay for my sins and that you defeated death and rose again. Please forgive me, and be the Lord of my life. I give my life to you Lord. Amen

If you pray this prayer for the first time let me know so I can rejoice with you.

Did you know that at Gleanings, we have a dedicated team of prayer warriors and all prayer concerns are kept strictly confidential? Your comments, your questions and your joys are shared with the prayer team, to keep me accountable as the head of the ministry and to encourage them as they see God at work in your life. As with prayer all these things are kept confidential within the Gleanings team.
